Opel Insignia Sports Tourer: Modern combination
At the Geneva Motor Show, Opel presents its completely new Insignia Sports Tourer for the first time: Clearly modern, sporty and in the style of a large coupé.
Opel presents the Insignia Sports Tourer to the public at the Geneva Motor Show. At the market launch, the model is launching turbocharged petrol and diesel engines as well as gearboxes of the latest generation. For the first time at Opel the Insignia-Kombi has an eight-speed automatic transmission, a 360-degree all-round camera and all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. Depending on the drive and equipment, the new one is up to 200 kilograms lighter than the previous model. The Insignia is the first Opel model with an active cowl that can be lifted in milliseconds to help protect a pedestrian during an impact.
More space in the interior
Even the sedan Insignia Grand Sport takes in the study Monza Concept Bonds – the next generation of the Insignia Sports Tourer does this even more clearly. With 4.99 meters a little longer than the predecessor, the new generation looks sportier and agile at first sight. The wheelbase grew by 92 millimeters to 2.82 meters and the front overhang fell by 30 millimeters shorter. In addition, Opel reduced the overhang between the bumper and the luggage compartment – the luggage compartment should be loaded more easily. The space between the wheel arches increased and the length of the loading compartment also grew by 97 millimeters with the rear seatback folded back to a good two meters. The maximum load capacity is 1,640 liters, 100 liters more for the predecessor.
The rear bench can be folded over in the ratio 40:20:40 by pushing the button, optionally the sideways running rails, separation nets and various attachments the loaded items in the right place. The obliquely upward-adjustable rear cover makes access to the luggage compartment easier. The luggage compartment flap can be opened by means of a foot kick under the rear bumper and closed with the same gesture. The headlessness, the shoulder-freeness, and the space for the hip increased in the second row. Driver and passenger are sitting deeper than before in the vehicle.
Networking and driver assistance
The “Intellilink” system provides entertainment and networking. It works with Apple car play and Android car. While the smartphone is seamlessly integrated into the vehicle infotainment, it can now be wirelessly recharged. With the new Insignia generation, a service will also be launched, in which the passengers will contact the Opel Onstar consultant to book a hotel room, for example. In addition, the 4G-LTE WLan Hotspot allows the fast connection to the Internet. The technical highlight in the new Insignia Sports Tourer is the second generation of the award-winning, adaptive Intellilux LED matrix light, which is now available with 16 LED segments in the narrow headlights. Thanks to the higher number of LED elements, the lighting functions adapt more precisely to the respective situation; The transitions are faster and more fluid. Depending on the steering angle, the light intensity of the inner matrix elements also increases in order to illuminate the selected track more brightly. In addition, a special LED beam beam, integrated into the low beam module, extends the light range up to 400 meters.
The head-up display, which projects information on speed, traffic signs, speed controllers or navigation in the driver’s direct field of view on the windshield, the 360-degree camera, the adaptive cruise control with automatic dangers, Active Lane Keeping Assistant with automatic steering correction and the reverse wizard.
The new all-wheel drive with torque vectoring conveys fun and safety. Two electrically-controlled slat clutches replace the rear axle differential and ensure an individual power transmission to each wheel, regardless of the ground as well as wetness, ice or snow. In curves, additional torque is applied to the outer rear wheel so that the Sports Tourer spontaneously deflects and under-steering is avoided. The basis for the correct driving behavior is the further developed Flexride chassis. It adapts shock-absorbers, steering, accelerator pedal characteristic and automatic shifting independently or by the driver’s selectable modes “Standard”, “Sport” and “Tour”. The new central “Drive Mode Control” software is the heart of the adaptive chassis. It permanently evaluates all sensor data and settings and recognizes the individual driving style.
