Study: Tesla more innovative than BMW, VW at the very front, Toyota leaves feathers
The study “AutomotiveInnovations” of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) of the University of Bergisch Gladbach has determined the most innovative autocone in 2017. In the evaluation of more than 1100 innovations from 19 manufacturers, German companies were particularly successful in their innovation. The Japanese manufacturer Toyota, on the other hand, emerged as a big loser.
According to the study, the most innovative car company in 2017 is Volkswagen. With 244 points and 271 innovations, the Wolfsburg runners – ahead of the competition, in particular, thanks to the Audi Premium Cup – are in the first place in the year ranking. In second place Daimler follows 130 points, while US electric car maker Tesla has secured a surprisingly third place (87 points). Fourth place occupied BMW with 79 points – in the previous year the Bavarians were still in second place. On the fifth place is General Motors (73 points).
One of the biggest losers in the CAM evaluation is Toyota, which is ranked 15th among 19 globally active manufacturers. Four years ago the company was still in fifth place. The study AutomotiveInnovations was carried out for the twelfth year in a row. The Center of Automotive Management serves as the basis for the ranking list of the innovations of 19 global automotive groups and 58 manufacturing brands.
